South Carolina Firefighter Mobilization Oversight Committee

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the local incident commander activate S.C. Firefighter Mobilization (FFMob)?

Call your county emergency manager and tell him or her that you need to activate FFMob. The county emergency manager should then call the State Warning Point (SWP) at the S.C. Emergency Management Division to make the request.

What happens after I make that request?

Someone from the FFMob organization will be contacting you as soon as possible. Be prepared to answer specific questions about your request.

How does FFMob collect the information about our state's fire service resources?

Each registered fire department is given access to the state emergency mobilization system (SEMS) which is an internet-based database for resource information. That department can then input and maintain most of their information.

How do I register my fire department?

Registration is easy!

After my fire department is registered, how do I register my personnel?

Personnel registration is completed online by the registered department administrator.

Does FFMob use 800 MHz radios?

Yes, FFMob uses 800 MHz radios during activations. FFMob uses two state-wide talkgroups on the Palmetto 800 system, and all our radios have the state mutual aid channels. FFMob's primary talkgroup is available for talkgroup sharing to other response agencies within the state through memorandums of understanding. Please contact the state coordinator for more information about this.

Can FFMob deploy resources out of the state?

Yes, state fire resources can be deployed out of the state through an EMAC request (Emergency Management Assistance Compact).
